Shwasi Capsule Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side Effects

Shwasi Capsule is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by
Shree Dhanwantri Herbals. It is mainly used in the treatment of Bronchial Asthma and Bronchitis.

Shwasi Capsule Indications

Bronchial Asthma (Allergic and Non Allergic)
Bronchitis (Acute and chronic)
Whooping cough
Pulmonary congestion
Bronchiectasis.

Dosage

1-2 capsules twice a day in acute bronchitis for 5- days,
2 capsules thrice day chronic bronchitis for 21 – 25 days,
2 capsules thrice a day in bronchial asthma for 2 months followed by 1 capsule twice a day till the symptoms disappear.

How long to take?
This medicine can be taken for a period of 6 – 8 weeks as per doctors advice. After that time, usually the dose is gradually reduced and the medicine is stopped in next 6 weeks of time.

Ingredients

Each capsule contains in mg extract of
Somalata – Ephedra gerardiana – 75 mg – Used in asthma and chronic respiratory disorders, thirst, emaciation etc
Vasa – Adhatoda vasica – 50 mg – Used in treating asthma, bronchitis and excess mucous condition. 
Shwasakuthara – 50 mg – Used in the treatment of asthma, dyspnoea, chronic bronchitis etc.
Abhraka bhasma – calx of mica – 25 mg 
It is used in Ayurvedic treatment of asthma, urinary disorders, skin diseases etc.  
Shringa bhasma – 25 mg 
Used in Ayurvedic treatment of heart burn, gastric pain, abdominal colic, asthma etc
Apamrga kshara – Achyranthes aspera Linn – 10 mg – It is an alkaline Ayurvedic medicine.
Kadali kshara – 10 mg – It is an alkaline Ayurvedic medicine, in powder form, prepared from stem of Banana tree.
Mallasindur – Arsenic sulphide – 5 mg 
It is used in Ayurvedic treatment of Asthma and syphilis.

With Other Medicines

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Can this be taken while taking multivitamin tablets?
Yes, generally. Your consulting doctor will be good judge on this topic.

Shwasi Capsule Side effects

There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
It is usually prescribed in a lower dose during lactation and in children.
Consult your doctor for its usage during pregnancy.
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight.

How long does it take to start showing results?
Depends on the dosage and other products suggested with this. Usually 1 – 2 weeks time.

Can it be used in people with diabetes?
Yes. But an eye should be kept on the blood sugar level. Your doctor should help you in this regard. This product can alter blood sugar levels.  

Can this be taken without consulting a doctor?
No. In many cases, this product alone might not work. More often this is given in combination with a few Ayurvedic medicines. Your Ayurveda practitioner will be the best judge to decide on those things. 

Pathyas

Can one take non vegetarian food while taking this medicine?
Yes, unless your practitioner has asked to avoid it.

Is there any Pathya (diet rules to be followed while taking this product?
No product specific diet is mentioned. If the practitioner has advised diet control based on disease, one has to follow that.
Avoid excess spicy foods, junk foods, aerated drinks, frozen and canned foods
