If somebody has taken long use of tankan, then how we can do anti dote,or neutralize the side effects of tankan bhasm?
Answer:

For a patient taking Tankana Bhasma for long term,
It is best for him to take Giloy Amla juice (Patanjali) – 10 ml, mixed with half a small cup of water, once  a day, at any time of the day. This would reduce the excess Pitta increase and Kshara effects caused by Tankana.
Tankana Bhasm for Bindi allergy:
Make a paste of half a teaspoon of Tankana Bhasma with a teaspoon of turmeric powder, with milk. Apply this 2 – 3 times a day.

  2. Is Tankan bhasma useful for dry layer on hair scalp? How to use?

    • Hi, some people use it on dry flakes in scalp.
3 teaspoon of borax powder is mixed with half a liter of fresh aloe vera pulp. Massage into affected areas after shower and at bed. But some may feel allergic to it. Hence, take care.

      • I have small wart like on my face and body so can i use this tankan bhasma and lemon remedy as u suggested for my face warts also. They r very small i thnk dey r goin to emerge out and face looks as it has many black spots due to dat wart. So can i apply this paste on my face?

      • bkv arundhathi says:

Tankana bhasma is not boric acid. It is borax. It is a big confusion to all.

        • Adding on to bkv arundhathi comment: tankana bhasma is natural mineral “borax” from a mine, which is then properly purified to remove other minerals things from its collection, giving 99% or more purity of borax mineral. The borax mineral is also called “sodium borate,” sometimes with added water (because it soaks up water, and these forms are called “-hydrate” like “decahydrate,” etc). This mineral is a caustic alkali, meaning it is very basic in pH level, especially the less “hydrated” it is – the more dry and powdery, the less hydrated, and the more of an alkali it is.

Boric acid is a little different. Boric acid has no sodium. Sodium is what makes “borax” and tankana bhasma an alkali, which can increase pitta and cause burning sensation without proper use. Boric acid may have been produced in ancient times, but I haven’t heard of its mention in ayurveda. In modern times, boric acid is considered to have many of the same effects as “borax” (sodium + boric acid together, AKA tankana bhasma)… however, considering all things, the two different substances have slightly different effects. Purified dry borax (tankana bhasma) has a stronger action in most cases, and is more suitable for many ayurvedic applications. Boric acid (if you find this in pills, liquid, from doctors, etc) is often considered weaker and slower in action, but may suit people who have a weakened body while they try to find proper treatment from a physician of ayurveda.

          So:

-Borax/tankana bhasma (AKA “sodium borate, sodium borate tetrahydrate, sodium borate -hydrate, etc): quicker, hotter, alkali, typical ayurvedic treatment, must be almost or entirely pure for better effects and fewer side effects. If you cannot find an ayurvedic physician, some people will use “Borax” from a pharmacy just like tankana bhasma – they are nearly the same. (But not all countries allow sale of “borax.”) However, you never know if it is pure or not without traditional steps. Instead I recommend physician treatment when possible. Borax/tankana can be used wrongly and cause bad effects, as with all bhasma.

-Boric acid (no sodium, found in hot springs, volcanic soil, sometimes mineral water, rarely from mines): this also requires purification, but the process would be more difficult. Compared to tankana bhasma, it is milder in action, but slower, and still very useful, but maybe not for all diseases. Take a dip in volcanic hot springs – your body will probably get treatment from boric acid naturally. Like tankana bhasma, volcanic hotsprings containing boric acid are good for most of the treatments in the article – but the effect is more gentle and may take longer.

Please comment if I have misspoken or missed anything.
