Laghu Sutshekhar Ras – Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients, Side Effects

Laghu Sutshekhar Ras is an Ayurvedic medicine in tablet or powder form, used in the treatment of headache, migraine etc. This is a very famous Ayurvedic product used throughout India. 

Uses and effect on dosha

Laghu Sutshekhar Ras Uses: It is used in the Ayurvedic treatment of headache, migraine, gastritis, dyspepsia, sinusitis, burning sensation, nasal bleeding, stomatitis.

It is used in the Ayurvedic treatment of headache due to Pitta dosha aggravation, migraine, a type of headache called Suryavarta where the headache increases as the sun rises, sour vomiting, lack of sleep due to Pitta aggravation, excessive sweating, bleeding through nose and mouth, i.e. Urdhvaga Raktapitta, stomatitis, etc.
It is used in migraine, vertigo, nausea, abdominal colic pain.  

In case of Pittaja Unmada, i.e., Schizophrenia due to increased Pitta dosha, Laghu sutashekhar ras is administered along with Svarna Makshika Bhasma, with Ash gourd juice

It balances Pitta dosha primarily and Vata dosha secondarily.
Some Ayurveda doctors use it in the treatment of fissure-in-ano and bleeding hemorrhoids.

Dose and duration of use

Laghu Sutshekhar Ras dosage:

It can be administered in a dose of 1 – 3 tablets i.e., 250 – 750 mg, in one or divided doses per day, before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor. It is advised along with milk mixed with sugar.

It can be administered for a period of one month based on doctor’s advice.

How long to use: It is administered for a period of one month.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Ingredients

Laghu Sutshekhar Ras ingredients, how to make:
Swarnagairika – Purified Red Ochre – Iron Oxide – 240 g
Shunti – Ginger (rhizome) – Zingiber officinalis – powder – 120 g
Nagavalli – Betel leaf juice extract – Piper betel – quantity sufficient for grinding for three days.

Reference, manufacturer and side effects

Reference:  Rasa Tantra Sara – Siddha Yoga Sangraha – Kharaliya Rasayana
Laghu Suta Shekhar ras reference of this medicine is found in the treatise Rasa Tantra Sara – Siddha Yoga Sangraha context, Prathama Khanda, i.e., first section, Kharaliya Rasayana 134. It is explained under preparation of rasa medicines with the help of mortar and pestle. i.e. kharaleeya rasayana.

Method of preparation

First, Svarna Gairika is taken and it is purified. IT is mixed with ginger powder and ground with the betel leaf juice for three days. To prepare betel leaf juice extract, ripe, yellow colored Nagarvel type of betel leaf is taken and crushed, juice is collected and filtered. After grinding Swarna Gairika and ginger powder with betel leaf for 3 days, pills are rolled of 2 ratti size – i.e. 250 mg each.

  1. Hello Sir, I have lot of blisters on my forehead. Not sure what was the reason. My doctor advise Laghu Sutshekhar tablets. Not sure if this related to my skin problem. Kindly advise

  2. Hello Sir, I have been advised to take 100 tablets of Laghu Sutshekhar Ras. Two tab for three times in a day that is 6 tablets for a day. I have Thyroid and am on medication is it ok to Laghu tablets. Does it has any side effects
