Vidangadi Churna – Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients, Side Effects

Vidangadi Churna is an Ayurvedic medicine in herbal powder form. It is used in treatment of intestinal worms (helminthiasis), anorexia and abdominal pain. 

Vidangadi Churna uses: 

  • It is used in treatment of intestinal worms, anorexia, abdominal colic.
  • This is prescribed for daily use for precluding obesity, and tubercular glands and diabetic carbuncles. The troubles of the obese due to over eating and lack of exercise can mostly be avoided by taking this daily.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Vata and Pitta.


Vilangadi churnam

Vidangadi Churnam Dosage:
3 grams, once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.It is traditionally given along with butter milk or honey.

How long to take?
This medicine can be safely taken for a period of upto 2-4 months.

Vidangadi Choorna Side Effects:
Self medication with this medicine is strictly not recommended. Take this only under strict medical supervision.
Take this medicine in precise dose and for limited period of time, as advised by doctor.
Diabetic, hypertensive patients, cardiac patients, obese people, pregnant ladies, lactating mothers and children should take this medicine strictly under medical supervision.
Over-dosage may cause constipation.
Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in a dry cool place.

10 g fine powder of
Vidanga – False black pepper (fruit) – Embelia ribes
Saindhava – Rock Salt
Yavakshara – Kshara of Barley – Hordeum vulgare
Kampillaka – Mallotus philippinensis
Haritaki – Chebulic Myrobalan (fruit rind) – Terminalia chebula

Shelf life: Two years from the date of manufacturing. If you have opened the seal of the container, better to finish the medicine within 2 – 3 months.

विदङ्गसैन्धवक्षार कम्पिल्लकहरीतकी: ।
पिबेत् तक्रेण सम्पिष्य सर्वक्रिमिनिवृत्तये ॥

vidaṅgasaindhavakṣāra kampillakaharītakī: |
pibet takreṇa sampiṣya sarvakriminivṛttaye ||

    my daughter {in her 30’s } has been taking vidangada churnam for 10 months for obesity. She has in the ten months put on 6 kg inspite of the medication but she binges and does not exercise. She is extremely lethargic and sleeps quite a bit…not sure if it is because of side effects or just her condition but she looks less bloated. Please advise if she should continue taking the medication. She takes one small teaspoon with honey three times a day with varanadi kweddm [1 tablet] and two tablets of Indukanthm. URGENT PLEASE ADVICE IF IT IS oK TO TAKE LONG TERM…ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
