Iyngkoottu Ennai: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Iyngkoottu Ennai is a classical Siddha medicine in oil form manufactured by SKM Siddha & Ayurveda Company India Ltd., Erode- Tamil Nadu. It is used for treating joint pains.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Iyngkoottu Ennai:
Veppa ennai – Nimba taila – Neem oil – Azadirachta indica – 20 %
Nalla ennai – Tila taila – Sesame oil – Sesamum indicum – 20 % – It helps to strengthen the bones, muscles and joints.
Vilakku ennai – Eranda taila – Castor oil – Ricinus communis – 20 % – It helps to improve blood circulation, to increase body warmth. It also helps to relieve pain and stiffness in joints.
Eluppa ennai – Madhuka – Madhuca longifolia – 20 % – It has anti-inflammatory action.
Punga ennai – Karanja taila – Pongamia pinnata – 20 % – It is used in the treatment of herpes, boils, abscesses and eczema.
Karu yumathai saru – Dattura – Datura stramonium – q.s. – It helps to relieve pain and inflammation.
Thalluthalai saru – Agnimantha – Clerodendrum phlomidis – q.s. – It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities.
Karu nochi saru – Nirgundi swarasa – Vitex negundo – q.s. – It is a very good muscle relaxant, pain relieving, anti mosquito, anti anxiety, anti asthma and so on, herb of Ayurveda.

• Valikeelvayu
• Azhal keelvayu
• Valiazhal keelvayu
• All vatha disorders [all types of rheumatic problems]
• Neuro-musculo-skeletal disorders.

Application on feet

Oil application over feet

Precaution if you apply this oil over feet:
If you apply this oil on feet, make sure to wash off thouroughly with water or wipe off with cloth. The oil can make you slippery while walking.
After applying, make sure there are no oil spills on the floor. This can make the floor slippery.

Direction for use

Direction for use of Iyngkoottu Ennai:
Apply to the affected area followed by fomentation with hot water or Elaikizhi or Podikizhi as per the need.
Or as directed by the physician.

• There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
• For external application only.

During pregnancy, lactation

If you were using this oil before pregnancy without any allergic reaction, you can continue using this oil even during pregnancy.
If you have not used this product before and wish to use it during pregnancy, better to consult a doctor because it can cause skin allergy in some rare cases.
It is generally considered as safe to use during lactation, however consult your doctor for the right advice.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles.
