Abhayadi Chatussama Vati Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side Effects

Abhaya means Hareetaki. Hareetaki alone or in various combinations has the ability to cure several ill health conditions. Abhaya chatussama vati is a unique combination of four drugs and ultimately remains as Tridoshahara in nature. 

This formulation is very specific as the formulation works out well in both the cases like constipation and diarrhoea. Hence it is very beneficial in the treatment of Grahani vis –  a –  vis Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Ingredients: Equal amount of each drug –

  1. Abhaya (Hareetaki) – Terminalia chebula – Fruit rind
  2. Nagara (Shunthi) – Zingiber officinale – Rhizome
  3. Musta – Cyperus rotundus – Rhizome
  4. Guda (Organic jaggery)

Abhaya (Hareetaki) – 
Laxative, rejuvinative, anti spasmodioc, anti flatulent
Nagara (Shunthi) – Ginger Digestive, carminative, absorbant, anti spasmodic, anti inflammatory
Musta –  Cyperus rotundus – Absorbant, anti spasmodic, anti diarrhoeal, digestive, carminative
Guda (jaggery) Nutitive, anti flatulent, digestive, energizer

Method of preparation


General method of preparation of Vati (tablets).
All the ingredients, except jaggery are made into fine powder and mixed well. To this jaggery is added and pounded. Later, it is mixed thoroughly and rolled into the pills of 500 mg size.

Dosage

Classical dosage is 12 gram.But in practice 1 – 2 gram is administered. If the individual is of Krura koshtha and possesses enough body strength, this can be administered till 5 – 6 gram at a time. According to the condition, this yoga can be prescribed twice or thrice in a day.

In children, below the age of 2 years 250 mg,2 – 8 years 1 gram and 8 – 14 years 2 gram can be administered.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Indications

Vehicle and indications:
Irrespective of the diseases in general warm water can be used as vehicle.

In specific, butter milk can be used in chronic diarrhoea or mal absorption cases including IBS. Or else Jeerakarishtha, Mustakarishtha,Takrarishtha etc can be used in this respect.

Lemon juice can be used in constipation, regurgitation, burping, distension of abdomen and indigestion.Draksharishtha,Abhayarishtha,Dantyarishtha,Balajeerakadi kashaya, Mridweekadi kashaya etc are the other choices that can be taken help.

In jaundice and anorexia(tastelessness),Pathyakatphaladi kashaya, Paripathadi khada, Patola katurohinyadi kashaya, Patola mooladi kashaya etc can be used for better therapeutic effect of this combination.

Contra indications


There is no any absolute contra indication for this recipe.
This product is not suitable for people with diabetes.

Specifications


In the habitual constipation of the old aged people this formulation has significant benefit. The patients who are recovered by ascitis are usually having the digestive disturbances irrespective of the system of medicine they use. Also those with drug induced hepatic toxicity are benefitted by this formulation in good way. If the bowel is not well formed in such incidences the formulation can be advised during the night followed with the Barley water (along with well cooked barley)
