Galakol Tablet: Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Galakol Tablet is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Charak Pharmaceuticals. It initiates and increases lactation. 

Breastfeeding offers beneficial effects for both baby as well as the mother. Breastmilk provides the right balance of nutrients to help the infant grow strong and healthy. Mother’s milk is essential to create an emotional bond between mother and baby. Galakol is safe medicine, ideally containing the herbal nutritive tonics for the mother and the baby. Galakol is the right choice not only to increase the lactation but also facilitates fast recovery post-delivery. Galakol improves general health status and well-being.

Indications

Indication of Galakol Tablet:
Inadequate lactation due to subnormal physiological status or post-partum stress.

Dosage

Dosage of Galakol Tablet:
2 tablets thrice a day for 6 weeks, followed by 2 tablets twice a day throughout lactation.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

How long to use?
This product can be used for a period of 2 – 3 months of time, based on your doctor’s advice.

Kakachika – Caesalpinia bonduc – 12.5 mg
Pippali – Piper longum – 12.5 mg
Vacha – Acorus calamus – 12.5 mg
Ehkaro – Acacia melanoxylon – 25 mg
Kapikacchu – Mucuna puriens – 50 mg
Devadaru – Cedrus deodara – 6.25 mg
Gokshura – Tribulus terrestris – 12.50 mg
Shunti – Zingiber officinale – Ginger – 12.50 mg
Jeevanti – Leptadenia reticulata – 12.50 mg

Morat – Clematis gouriana – 12.50 mg
Patha – Cissampelos pariera – 12.50 mg
Tagara – Valeriana wallichii – 12.50 mg
Musta  – Cyperus rotundus – 12.50 mg
Sariva  – Hemidesmus indicus – 12.50 mg
Ikshu  – Saccharum officinarum – 12.50 mg

Thambulapatra – Piper betel – Betel leaf – 12.50 mg
Rasna – Pluchea lanceolata – 18.75 mg
Amruta – Tinospora cordifolia – 25 mg
Vasa – Adathoda vasica – 25 mg
Karpasa – Gossypium herbacium – 125 mg – Levant cotton plant, called as Karpasa in Sanskrit is used in Ayurvedic treatment. Cotton seeds are an excellent aprhodisiac and nerve tonic. Its root bark decoction is used in amenorrhea.

Dashamoola   –  50 mg
Yastimadhu – Glycyrrhiza glabra – 25 mg

Erandamoola – Ricinus communis – 25 mg
Shatavari – Asperagus racemosus – 100 mg
Varahikanda – Dioscorea bulbifera – 50 mg – Varahikanda – tuber of Dioscorea bulbifera is an excellent aphrodisiac herb, used for the treatment of diabetes, eczema, psoriasis, intestinal parasites etc. It is also called air potato.
Ashwagandha – Withania somnifera – 100 mg

Do’s:-
Ensure proper and timely breastfeeding of the child.
Have proper nutritious food especially rich in calcium to ensure proper health.

Side effects

Side effects of Galakol Tablet:
There are no known side effects with this medicine.
However, it is best to use this medicine under medical supervision.
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy.
This product can be safely used during lactation period and in children for a limited period of few weeks time.
