Forthulasi Syrup Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Forthulasi Syrup is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Fort Herbal Pharmaceuticals. It is an anti-tussive formulation used in respiratory disorders. 

Indications

Indication of Forthulasi Syrup:
Allergic cough
Common cold
Spasmodic cough

Dosage

Dosage off Forthulasi Syrup:
5-10 ml twice a day, or as directed by the physician.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

How long to use?
This product can be used for a period of 2 – 3 months of time, based on your doctor’s advice.

Ingredients of Forthulasi Syrup:
Each 100 ml contais –
Vasa – Adathoda vasica –  5 mg
Thulasi – Ocimum sanctum – 5 mg
Yastimadhu – Glycyrrhiza glabra – 2 mg
Thaleesapatra – Abies webbiana – 2 mg
Shunti – Zingiber officinale – 2 mg
Guduchi – Tinospora cordifolia – 2 mg
Kantakari – Solanum xanthocarpum – 2 mg – Kantakari is a very useful Ayurvedic herb, used widely in the treatment of cough, cold, asthma and such other respiratory tract conditions. It is one among Dashamoola – group of ten roots.
Maricha – Piper nigrum – 1 mg
Pippali – Piper longum – 1 mg
Twak – Cinnamomum malabaricum – 1 mg
Ela – Elettaria cardamomum – 0.5 mg – Cardamom is a very good Indian spice with sweetness. Being an excellent anti oxidant, it is used in treating blood pressure, asthma, indigestion, dysuria etc. It also is an ingredient of Chyawanprash.
Madhu – Honey – 10 ml
Sharkara – Sugar – q.s.

Side effects

Side effects of Forthulasi Syrup:
There are no known side effects with this medicine.
This is not suitable for diabetic people.
However, it is best to use this medicine under medical supervision.
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy.
This product can be safely used during lactation period and in children for a limited period of few weeks time.
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given.
