Panchalavana Bhasmam: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side Effects

Panchalavana Bhasmam is an Ayurvedic medicine prepared with 5 types of salt. It is used in the treatment of anorexia, digestion disorders, stomach ache, diarrhea etc. 

Uses

Uses of Panchalavana Bhasmam:
It improves digestion.
Relieves abdominal colic pain
Useful in
Abdominal tumor – Gulma
IBS, sprue, altering diarrhea and constipation – Grahani
Diarrhoea, dysentery – Atisara
Disease of the spleen, Splenomegaly – Pleeha

Ingredients

Ingredients of Panchalavana Bhasmam:
Saindhava lavana (Rock salt) –
Also called Sendha namak, is considered as best among all types of salts. It is recommended for regular dietary usage.
Vida lavana – Useful in relieving bloating and dyspepsia
Sauvarchala lavana – Black salt – Also called Kala Namak, useful in throat and cardiac disorders.
Samudra lavana (Sea salt) –  produced from sea water. The seawater is canalized and Sun-dried.
Audbhida lavana [Romaka] – contains kshara properties.
All the above salts are taken in sharava samputa – sealed small pot and heated till the entire content turns to ash.

Dose, adjuvant

Dosage of Panchalavana Bhasmam:
250 mg – 2 grams followed by warm water once or twice a day, or as directed by the physician.

Adjuvant-
It is administered along with ghee, buttermilk, warm water or juice of ginger.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, manufacturer, package

Panch lavan Bhasma side effects: 
It is best to avoid during pregnancy.
It can be administered in very low doses of 250 – 500 mg during lactation and in children.
It is not recommended in very weak, emaciated, underweight patients.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store in a cool dry place.
