Brihat Vaiswanara Churnam: Uses, Ingredients, Side Effects

Brihat Vaiswanara Churnam is an Ayurvedic herbal powder medicine, used in digestive tract disorders. It is also known as Agnimugham. It is commonly used in Kerala Ayurveda practice. 

Uses

Uses of Brihat Vaishwanara Churnam:
Excellent for digestion.
Is a good laxative.
Useful in abdominal colic,
Bloating and abdominal tumor – Gulma
IBS, sprue, altering diarrhea and constipation – Grahani

Ingredients

Ingredients of Brihat Vaishwanara Churnam:
Each 10 g contains-
Chitrka (Plumbago zeylanica)- 0.313 gm
Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum)- 0.313 gm
Hingu (Asafoetida)- 0.313 gm
Kusta (Sausserea lappa)- 0.313 gm
Sauvarchala (Unaqua sodium chloride)- 0.313 gm
Vacha (Acorus calamus)- 0.313 gm
Magadhi (Piper longum)- 0.313 gm
Pushkara (Inula racemosa)- 0.313 gm
Bharangi (Clerodendrum serratum)- 0.313 gm
Yavani (Carum copticum)- 0.313 gm
Vishwa bheshaja (Zingiber officinale)- 0.313 gm
Vidanga (Embelica ribes)- 0.313 gm
Maricha (Piper nigrum)- 0.313 gm
Granthi (Leonotis nepetifolia)- 0.313 gm
Saundika – 0.313 gm
Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)- 5.000 gm

Dose, adjuvant

Dosage of Brihat Vaiswanara Churnam:
Adult dose – 5 grams once or twice a day along with hot water or buttermilk or as advised by Ayurvedic doctor.
For children below 5 years of age, dose is – 1 – 2 grams once or twice a day before or after food, as advised by Ayurvedic doctor.
For children of 5 – 12 years of age, dose is – 2-5 grams once or twice a day before or after food, as advised by Ayurvedic doctor.

Adjuvant of Brihat Vaisvanara Churnam
Hot water or butter milk.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, package

Side effects of Brihat Vaishvanara Churna:
Some people with sensitive stomach may not tolerate this medicine. They may find increase in gastritis symptoms (burning sensation in stomach).
It is best to avoid in people with diarrhea.
It is best to avoid in pregnancy.
It can be administered to lactating mother and in children.

Presentation: Pack of 10 grams *10 sachets.

Storage, shelf life, manufacturer

Storage:
Store in a cool dry place.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Keep the bottle tightly closed after usage.  

Shelf life: 1 year. Once opened should be finished off within 2-4 months.

  1. Hello Dr. Can u pls inform for how long Brihat Vaishvanara Churna can be taken at a stretch? Can it be taken regularly? I am getting good relief from IBS with this. It was prescribed by Dr in AVS along with Kalasakadi Kashayam.

  2. Does brihat vishwanana churnam get rid of krimi too? Esp those that cause itching in th head.

    And does it get rid of krimi which cause some spots on skin?
