Chandanosiradi Kashayam Uses, Dose, Side Effects

Chandanosiradi Kashayam is an Ayurvedic liquid medicine in herbal decoction form, used for Pitta balance. Chandana refers to sandalwood, Usira (Usheera) is Khas Khas grass. These two are the main ingredients in this medicine. 

Ingredients

Chandanosiradi Kashayam ingredients:
Chandana – Santalum album / Pterocarpus santalinus Usheera – Khas Khas  – Vetiveria zizanioides
Jalada – Musta – Nut grass (root) – Cyperus rotundus
Laja – Parched rice
Mudga – green gram – Vigna radiate
Kana – Pippali – Long pepper fruit – Piper longum
Yava – Barley

Method of preparation

Method of manufacturing:
All the ingredients in coarse powder form is added with 8 or 16 parts of water, boiled and reduced to 1/4 or 1/8th part, filtered and preserved.

Action, effect on dosha, uses

How it acts?
All the ingredients – Chandana, Usheera etc balances Pitta and are coolant in nature. Raktapitta or bleeding disorders have high Pitta (excess hotness). The coolant property of the herbs pacify Pitta.

Raktapitta  – bleeding disorders like nasal bleeding, Ulcerative colitis and menorrhagia

Dose, duration of use

Dosage:
The dose is 12 – 24 ml, before food, at about 6 am and 6 pm or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
It is usually advised to add equal amount of water to the kashayam.
This Kashayam is traditionally advised along with Balamoola Kashaya.

Dose for children – 3 – 5 ml, mixed with equal or double quantities of water, once or twice a day, 15 minutes before food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.

How long can it be used?
Based on symptoms, it is usually prescribed for a period of 2 – 6 weeks.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Co-drink, diet rules

Anupana – Sharkara or Pravala bhasma 300 mg.

Pathya:
Light food is to be taken.

Package, shelf life, side effects

Packaging: –200 ml, concentrated Kashayam.
Appearance: dark brown to black
Taste – Astringent to bitter
Common preservative used: Sodium benzoate

Shelf life: 3 years from the date of manufacturing.

Chandanosiradi kashayam side effects:
There are no known side effects of this medicine.
Seek medical advice for its use during pregnancy.
It can be administered during lactation period and in children.
