Amlapittantak Lauh – Benefits, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Amlapittantak Lauh is an Ayurvedic medicine in tablet form, used in the treatment of acidity and gastritis. This medicine should only be taken under strict medical supervision. This medicine is most commonly used in north Indian Ayurvedic practice.

Uses, effect on dosha

Amlapittantak Lauh Uses: It is used in the Ayurvedic treatment of acidity, gastritis, heart burn, GERD, vomiting, abdominal colic pain etc.
It is also a source of Iron.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Vata, Pitta.

Dose, duration of use

Amlapittantak Lauh dosage:
250 mg once or twice a day, before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
It is advised along with water decoction prepared with coriander seeds, Haritaki and Fennel seeds.

How long to use: 
It is administered for a period of 1-2 months based on doctor’s advice.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Ingredients, method of preparation

Amlapittantak Lauh ingredients, how to make:
10 g fine powder of each of
Shuddha Parada – Herbal processed and purified Mercury
Shuddha Gandhaka – Herbal processed and purified Sulphur
Mandura Bhasma – Iron oxide
Kantaloha Bhasma – Calx of Iron
Abhraka Bhasma – Calx of silica
Equal parts of above is ground with Amla juice / decoction and pills of 250 mg size is prepared.

There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
It should be taken under strict medical supervision. Take this medicine only if your Ayurveda doctor has prescribed it to you.

Use this medicine only till the prescribed time and in the prescribed dose only.
Seek your doctor’s advice for its usage during pregnancy, lactation and in children.
Over-dosage may cause gastritis, heart burn symptoms in people with sensitive stomach.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
