Vyaghri Taila – Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients, Side Effects

Vyaghri Taila  is an Ayurvedic medicine. It is an herbal oil, used in the treatment of cough, cold, asthma, bronchitis, fever, etc. It is especially used in children. 

Uses

  • It is used in the treatment of children suffering from cough, cold, asthma, bronchitis, fever, anorexia.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Vata and Pitta.

Vyaghri Thaila – how to use: It is used for external application.

How long to use: It can be used upto 3 – 4 months based on doctor’s prescription.

Application on feet

Oil application over feet

Precaution if you apply this oil over feet:
If you apply this oil on feet, make sure to wash off thoroughly with water or wipe off with cloth. The oil can make you slippery while walking.
After applying, make sure there are no oil spills on the floor. This can make the floor slippery.

Side Effects

There are no known side effect of this oil on external application.

Vyaghri Taila ingredients, how to make:
3 liters of each of
Juice extract of Vyaghri – Solanum xanthocarpum
Juice extract of Vasa – Malabar nut tree (whole plant) – Adhatoda vasica
Juice extract of Bilva – Bael (root) – Aegle marmelos
Juice extract of Bhringaraja – Eclipta alba
Kanji – Fermented gruel
Taila – Oil of Sesamum indicum
Paste prepared from 96 g each of
Musta – Nut grass (root) – Cyperus rotundus
Mocharasa – Extract of Bombax malabaricum
Rasanjana – Aqueous extract of Berberis aristata
Shatahva – Indian Dill (fruit) 0 Anethum sowa / Peucedanum graveolens
Devadaru – Himalayan Cedar (bark / heart wood) – Cedrus deodara
Yashtimadhu – Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra
Bala – Country mallow (root) – Sida cordifolia
Rasna- Pluchea lanceolata
Haridra – Turmeric Rhizome – Curcuma Longa
Daruharidra – Tree turmeric (stem) – Berberis aristata
Chandana – Sandalwood – Santalum album
Rakta Chandana – Red Sandalwood – Pterocarpus santalinus
Manjishta – Indian Madder (root) – Rubia cordifolia
Priyangu – Callicarpa macrophylla
Utpala – Nymphaea stellata
Shalaparni – Root – Desmodium gangeticum
Prishnaparni – Root – Uraria picta
Twak – Cinnamon – Cinnamomum zeylanicum
Patra – Cinnamomum tamala
Ela – Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum
Nagakeshara – Mesua ferrea
Balaka – Pavonia odorata
All the ingredients are mixed and boiled till total moisture is lost from the oil, filtered.

Reference: Bhaishajya Ratnavali Balaroga Adhikara 144 – 147

Shelf life: 3 years from the date of manufacture.

During pregnancy, lactation

If you were using this oil before pregnancy without any allergic reaction, you can continue using this oil even during pregnancy.
If you have not used this product before and wish to use it during pregnancy, better to consult a doctor because it can cause skin allergy in some rare cases.
It is generally considered as safe to use during lactation, however consult your doctor for the right advice.

Can this product be applied after steam therapy?
No. Oil is best applied before steam therapy. This is as per basic Ayurvedic principles.
