Mukta Bhasma is an Ayurvedic medicine prepared from Pearl. It is used in Ayurvedic treatment of cough, cold, asthma, digestive disorders etc. This medicine should only be taken strictly under medical supervision. It is also called as Moti Bhasma.

Benefits


It is a natural coolant, undergoes digestion and assimilation very fast, sweet in nature and taste. It reduces body heat.

Medicinal Qualities

Dose

Moti Bhasma dosage:
125 mg once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor. It is traditionally administered along with honey, butter, milk.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side Effects

This medicine should only be taken under strict medical supervision.
Self medication with this medicine may prove to be dangerous.
Over-dosage may cause severe side effects.
Take this medicine in precise dose and for limited period of time, as advised by doctor.
Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in a dry cool place.

Mukta Bhasma preparation, ingredients, how to make:
Purified Pearl pieces are made into fine powder by grinding. It is further ground with rose water and made into disc shaped cakes, dried and heated in absence of air in 500 degree celsius for 2 – 3 hours. This process is repeated for three times, to get white colored Mukta Bhasma (Pearl Calx)

Depending upon yoni or origin
Sukthi mothi –  obtained from sea shell
Shanka mothi – obtained from chonch shell
Gaja mothi – obtained from elephant

Mathsya mothi – obtained from fish
Dardura mothi – obtained from frog

The muktha having
pleasant look (hladi), white (swetha),
light (laghu), slimy (snigdha),
shinning like sun (rashsmivath), clear (nirmala),
big (mahath), water like (thoyaprabham), round (vratha),
should be used for medicinal purpose.

Tyajya Lakshanas

Unacceptable features of pearl:
If the muktha is dry (rooksha), absence of water or fluid (nirjala), dark colour (syama), like copper (tamrabam), like salt (lavanopamam), ting of white and black (arda subram), irregular shape (vikatam), having knots (grantila) should not be used for medicinal purpose.

Different Indications

Usage of Mukta Bhasma in different diseases:
Fever – usually administered along with Rasa Sindhoora.
In case of chronic lung diseases – Muktha bhasma is mixed with pravala bhasma and administered internally.
Hikka – hiccups – Muktha bhasma is mixed with katuki & swarna gairika choorna & administered.

Mukta Shodhana

Purification Procedure:
1. Muktha is taken in cloth and made into pack – potalli, The pack is pottali is suspended in dola yantra, containing jayanthi swarasa or agasthya swarasa & swedana is given for 3 hours.

2. Muktha is taken in sharava to this lime water (sudhodhaka) is added & heated upto 3 hours in ‘Sura Pradeepa Agni’(spirit lamp)

Mukta Marana


Purified Muktha is taken in khalva yantra. To this cow’s milk or gulag arka is added and pounded wel. It is then dried in sunlight. The obtained white powder is taken in sharava & sandhi bhandana is done. This sharava samputa is heated in laghu puta. Similar puta is given 3 times, then clear shiny bhasma obtained.

Mukta Druti

Ingredients
Muktha choorna – 1 part
Amlavethasa swarasa – quantity sufficient
Lemon fruit – 1

Procedure


Muktha choorna is kept in amlavethasa swarasa for 7 days then mardana is done to form paste. This paste is kept in between cut piece of big lemon & tied with tread. This lemon is kept inside the heap of dhanya for 7 days. Then lemon is taken out kept in musha & heated in gaja puta, muktha druthi is thus obtained.

  2. Among mukta bhasma , prawal pishti, n moti pishti , which one cause constipation? I read about moti pishti that it is used in daihrrea.
