Abhrak Bhasma – Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients, Side Effects

Abhrak Bhasma  is an Ayurvedic medicine, prepared from Mica. It is used in Ayurvedic treatment of asthma, urinary disorders, skin diseases etc.  This medicine should only be taken strictly under medical supervision. 

Uses


It is used in the treatment of digestive impairment, Malabsorption syndrome,
Disease due to Kapha Dosha, Asthma, bronchitis,
Fever, Bleeding disorders, Cough, Cold, Urinary disorders, diabetes, Anaemia, Skin diseases,
splenic disorders, ascites, Helminthiasis, etc.

It is useful in anti-aging treatment, anti hair fall treatment, male and female infertility treatment, rejuvenation treatment.
Abhrak bhasm is used as rejuvenating agent to treat brain and neuro-psychiatric disorders, bifrontal atrophy, trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathy
depression, etc.

Abhrak Bhasma Shataputi is useful in tuberculosis, cough, asthma, sinusitis etc.
It acts as aphrodisiac, useful in male and female infertility treatment, anti aging treatment.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Synonym:

Abhra bhasmam.

Dosage

125 mg to 375 mg once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
Dosage of Abhrak Bhasma Sataputi is 5 mg to 125 mg with honey or milk or water twice a day. Or as directed by the physician.
It is traditionally administered along with honey, ghee, Triphala Kashaya, Fresh ginger juice extract, Guduchi (Indian Tinospora) decoction, etc.

This is of two types. One the ordinary and the other processed 101 times. Each capsule contains 200 mg of Abhra bhasma, and for 101 processed 100-200 mg.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Adjuvant

  • For vitality- it is generally taken in Madanakameshwaram, Chaturjata rasayanam or other lehas.
  • For painful micturition- it is to be taken in milk or tender coconut water.
  • For diabetes- in turmeric juice or suitable decoction.
  • In other ailments, the vehicle can be sugar or honey.

Pathya:

Pathya must be according to the ailment.

Side Effects

  • This medicine should only be taken under strict medical supervision.
  • Self medication with this medicine may prove to be dangerous.
  • Overdosage may cause severe side effects.
  • It should be very carefully used during pregnancy, lactation and in children, only if found very necessary by the prescribing doctor.
  • Take this medicine in precise dose and for limited period of time, as advised by doctor.
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in a dry cool place.

Method Of Preparation

Shuddha Abhraka  – Purified Mica – 100 g.

Purified Mica is triturated with various herbal water decoctions and juice extracts, made into thin disc shaped cakes, and subjected to 800 – 900 degree celcius heat. The process is repeated for several times. The end product will be a very fie powder.

If it is repeated for 100 times, it is known as Shataputi Abhraka Bhasma.

Chemical composition

 It contains Magnesium, Iron, Potassium, Calcium and Aluminium.

Research: Animal experimental study to prove hepato-protective activity.

Habit forming

Is this medicine habit forming? Does it create dependence? Can we stop it after a few months of usage?
This medicine is not habit forming. After using for the prescribed period, your doctor would gradually decrease the dose and eventually stop it. Follow your doctor’s instructions for gradual decrease of dose and stopping. Usually it does not cause any ill effects.

  1. i would like to know whether vatahari oil, abharak bhasm, yogendra oil, kumar kalyan ras, panchratan special, and swarn bhasm can be used for treatment of joint pain

  2. I am a multiple sclerosis patient. My ayurvedic doctor has prescribed abhrabhasma cap along with ashtavargam. I m taking pregabalin tab also along wth telmisartin,rosovasatin clopidogel and tyroxin tab. Is there any problem taking abhrabhasma.

  3. My relative has Kidney failure and is on dialysis and. Medication. One of my friends mother has recommended to make a lep with following ingredients
    15 GMs Abraka Bhasma
    15 GMs suvarna Bhasma
    15 GMs navratna special
    15 GMs bolchandra Ras
    Mix above in 1.5 ltr of coconut oil (which is boiled with some elaichi,turmeric,neem,gulab,tulsi, and coconut water)
    This will cure her kidney problem plz advise.

  4. Last time I went to India a shopkeeper at Kottackal Arya vaidyasala told me that to use Abhrabhasama 101 for E D with milk once a day I am diabetic and suffering from ED for long I am 66 years old Is it good for my ED and diabetics Please advise me Thank you
