Eladi Modaka – Uses, Dose, How To Make And Ingredients

Eladi Modaka is an Ayurvedic medicine specifically used in the treatment of ill effects of alcohol consumption. Ela means cardamom, which is the main ingredient of Eladi Modaka.

Uses and dosage

Eladi Modaka uses:
Supports liver, clears off bad effects of alcohol.

Eladi Modaka dose:
5 – 10 grams once or twice in a day after food. With a glass of water / milk
Eladi Modaka is available in the form of herbal jam and also as granules.
Dosage for children below 5 years of age – 1 – 2 grams, once or twice a day, along with a teaspoon of honey or warm water / milk.
Dosage for children between 5 – 12 years of age – 5 grams once or twice a day along with a teaspoon of honey or warm water / milk.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Cardamom – Elettaria cardamomum – Seed – 1 part
Madhuka – Madhuca longifolia – Flower – 1 part
Chitraka – Plumbago zeylanica – Root – 1 part
Turmeric – Curcuma longa – Rhizome – 1 part
Daruharidra – Berberis aristata – Stem – 1 part
Triphala
Haritaki – Terminalia chebula – Fruit rind – 1 part
Vibhitaki – Terminalia belerica – Fruit rind – 1 part
Amalaki – Emblica officinalis – Fruit – 1 part
Red variety of rice – Oryza sativa – 1 part
Long pepper – Piper longum – Fruit – 1 part
Raisin – Vitis vinifera – Dried fruit – 1 part
Dates – Phoenix sylvestris – Fruit – 1 part
Sesame – Sesamum indicum – Seed – 1 part
Barley – Hordeum vulgare – Seed – 1 part
Vidari – Pueraria tuberosa – Root tuber – 1 part
Trivrit – Operculina turpethum – Root – 1 part
Sugar – 36 parts

Method of Preparation

Powder of each of these ingredients are taken in equal quantity. Powdered sugar is added to water, heated to prepare sugar syrup and filtered. Fine powders of other ingredients added, mixed well to form homogeneous mixture. While the mixture is still warm it is rolled into modaka. These are packed in tightly closed containers.

Side Effects

Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given

Shelf life

3 years from the date of manufacturing. Once the bottle is opened, it is best to finish it within 4 – 5 months of time.
