Chirakin Tablet: Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Chirakin tablet is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Zandu Pharmaceuticals. It is an anti-malarial drug. 

Ingredients

Ingredients of Chirakin Tablet:
Each tablet contains –
Kiratatikta [Swertia chirata] – 100 mg
Saptaparna [Alstonia scholaris] – 100 mg – It is a famous bitter-astringent tasting Ayurvedic herb used in skin diseases, intestinal worm infestation etc. It is named so, because its leaf occurs in a bunch of 7 whorls (7 – 10 small leaflets forming a bunch).
Katuki [Picrorrhiza kurroa] – 100 mg
Latakaranja [Caesalpinia crista] – 200 mg – Latakaranja is an Ayurvedic herb. Its seed is peculiar. When rubbed over a rough surface, it instantly becomes hot . It is widely used in treating malaria, and is also a very good anti spasmodic herb. It is also useful in many types of fever. Hence is known as Fever nut in English.

Indication and contraindication

Indication of Chirakin Tablet: 
Malaria

Contra-indication of Chirakin Tablet:
First trimester of pregnancy.

Dose

Dosage of Chirakin Tablet:
Curative:-
Adults – 2 tablet thrice a day for 3-7 days.
Children – 1 tablet thrice a day for 3-7 days.

Prophylactic:-
Adults – 1 tablet twice a day for 7 days.
Children – ½ tablet twice a day for 7 days.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, package

Side effects of Chirakin Tablet:
There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
It should be used strictly under medical supervision. Do not use this medicine for self treating.
This product may not cure all forms of malaria.
Store in a cool dry place, in an air tight container, away from direct sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Shelf life or expiration date: 3 years from the date of manufacture.
