Ayursulin Capsule: Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side Effects

Ayursulin Capsule is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Balvedics Pharmaceuticals. It complements the management of diabetes. 

Diabetes mellitus with its devastating consequences has assumed epidemic proportions in many countries of the world. With the present population of 19.4 million diabetics and a projected increase of 300 %, thereby leading to approximately 60 million by the year 2025, India would rank first in sharing the global burden of diabetes.

Ever since the discovery of insulin, insulin therapy has been considered the logical therapy of the disease, which is otherwise considered an incurable diathesis. Over the years, it has been felt that insulin therapy has many limitations and hazardous side effects like hypoglycaemia and growing tendency of immunological disturbances, which often lead to treatment failure.

In modern therapeutics, introduction of OHAs appeared as a breakthrough, but subsequently it was experienced that most of them are inadequately effective and were associated with many adverse effects.

Mode of action

Mode of action of Ayursulin Capsule:

  • Ayursulin comprises of ‘ leshma – media kshapnaka’ ingredients, they exert hypoglycemic effect as well.
  • Guduchi causes reduction in fasting blood sugar. It is an immuno-modulator and hepato-protective.
  • The alcoholic extract of Bilva has shown hypoglycaemic acivity in various scientific studies.
  • Amalaki relieves oxidative stress and improves glucose metabolism in diabetes.
  • Haridra is an efficient anti-oxidant, it ameliorates diabetic nephropathy, a potent aldose reductase inhibitor. Blood glucose lowering activity of its rhizome’s extracts has been demonstrated experimentally.
  • Bilva exhibits anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidaemic, anti-oxidant and pancreas-protective effect.
  • Besides being a potent hypoglycaemic, Ayursulin acts as a liver stimulant, mild laxative, vermifuge and anti-pyretic agent.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Ayursulin Capsule:
Each capsule contains extracts of –
Amalaki [Embelica officinalis] – 160 mg – Amla fruit or Indian gooseberry is rich in anti oxidants, Vitamin C and numerous phytonutrities to treat diabetes.
Haridra [Curcuma longa] – 160 mg – Turmeric.  Turmeric with amla is an excellent combination to counter high blood sugars. In traditional textbooks, there exists a churna called Nishamalki churna, containing these two as ingredients, used for diabetes.
Guduchi [Tinospora cordifolia] – 160 mg
Bilva [Aegle marmelos] – 160 mg
Kalamegha [Andrographis paniculata] – 160 mg

Indication

Indication of Ayursulin Capsule:
As an adjuvant in type-2 diabetes mellitus.
Prediabetes/IFH [impaired fasting glycaemia].
Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Dose, duration of use

Dosage of Ayursulin Capsule:
2 capsules twice a day half an hour before meals with water, or as directed by the physician.

How long to use?
It can be safely used for a period of 2 – 3 months time, with gradual decrease in dosage.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Sugar and starchy food items are to be restricted and proper exercise to be advised.

Side effects of Ayursulin Capsule:
There are no recorded side effects with this medicine.
Store in a cool dry place, in an air tight container, away from direct sunlight.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Shelf life or expiration date: 3 years from the date of manufacture.
