Bilagyl Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side effects

Bilagyl is a paste/jam formulation restores intestinal mucosal lining and treats diarrhea, chronic amoebic/bacillary dysentery and IBS. It is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Sandu Pharmaceuticals Limited, Mumbai.

Benefits

Benefits of Bilagyl Avaleha:
Controls diarrhea and dysentery, strengthens GI tract.
Relieves diarrhea and dysentery without causing constipation
Helps to heal ulcers in the GI tract
Alleviates abdominal pain, also has antihelmintic action.
It is indicated in enteric fever.
Corrects fats malabsorption syndrome like sprue

Indication

Indication of Bilagyl Avaleha:
Diarrhea
Dysentery
Bloody diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, stool with blood
IBS

Ingredients

Ingredients of Bilagyl Avaleha:
Each tea spoon of Bilagyl contains-
Bilva (Aegle marmelos)- 2.3 g
Sharkara (Sugar)

Dose

Dosage of Bilagyl Avaleha:
2 teaspoon twice daily, or as directed by the physician.
It is usually prescribed along with honey or water.
It can be taken 30 minutes before or after food, as advised by doctor.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, package

Side effects of Bilagyl Avaleha:
There are no recorded side effects with this medicine. Over dosage may cause constipation or hard bowels.
Should be taken under medical supervision.
It can be taken during pregnancy, only if advised by your Ayurvedic doctor.
It can be advised during lactation period and in children.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store in a cool dry place.
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given.
