Tonic Lehyam: Uses, Ingredients, Dose, Side effects

Tonic Lehyam is the only known liver protective for the foetus. It is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by Jammi’s Ayurveda pharmaceuticals, Chennai. It is for pregnant women.

Benefits of Tonic Lehyam:
Effective reduction of flatulence with its carminative action.
Uterine and nervine stimulant properties
Coolant due to its febrifuge [reduces fever] action.

Indication and contraindication

Indication of Tonic Lehyam:
For pregnant women between 5th month & 8th month.

Contra-indication of Tonic Lehyam:
Nil.

Composition

Composition of Tonic Lehyam:
Each 10 g contains-
Pippali (Piper longum)- 8.33 g
Jeeraka (Cuminum cyminum)- 8.33 g
Ajamoda (Ptychotis ajowan)- 8.33 g
Shunti (Zingiber officinale)- 8.33 g
Madhu (Honey)- 10.00 g

Mechanism of action

Justification for ingredients of Tonic Lehyam:
Pepper, cumin, ginger and honey makes the product mainly pittahara- removes biliousness and also confers digestive action on the product.
By virtue of pittahara action, the preparation tone up the liver of mother, which indirectly helps the infant’s liver.

Dose

Dosage of tonic Lehyam:
5 g to be taken after meals, with milk or honey.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects, package

Side effects of Tonic Lehyam:
No serious side effects are observed.
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are diabetic. In diabetic patients, only if the blood sugar is under good control, then this medicine can be given.
