Krimighna Vatika: Uses, Dose, Ingredients, Side Effects

Krimighna Vatika is an Ayurvedic medicine, used in the treatment of intestinal worms and parasites. It is widely used in Kerala Ayurvedic practice. 

‘Krimi’ means worms or parasites.
Krimighna means, killing of worms / parasites
Krimighna vatika- highly effective preparation of the Kerala school of Ayurveda to kill worms.

Uses

Uses of Krimighna Vatika:
Indication – intestinal parasites, entamoeba histolytica

Doctors also use this for the treatment of
Hairfall, dandruff – when the blood impurities are suspected.

Ingredients

Ingredients of Krimighna Vatika:
Kandukari choorna (Mucuna puriens)
Sweta ramata (Ferula asfoetida)
Mushkaka ksheeram (Schrebera swietenioides) – weaver’s beam tree.

Dose, adjuvants, diet rules

Dosage of Krimighna Vatika:
In prophylactic admissions-
Adults:- 1 tablet morning and in the evening with warm water after the meal.
In children below 5 years of age – quarter to half tablet once or twice a day, as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
In children between 5 – 1 2 years of age – half tablet once or twice a day after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
After administering this, on next day, laxative such as Avipattikar churna or castor oil is administered.
In severe infestation, the medicine is administered for 3 – 7 days.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Adjuvants-
Hot water, Chandrasuradi kashayam or Vilangadi kashayam.

Pathya- Diet advice:
After purging take rice with butter milk cooked with the bark of Palasha [Butea monosperma]. This may be continued for 3-7 days.
Avoid excess intake of milk, meat, cereals, jaggery, curd, fresh rice, flattened or roasted rice, coconut, leafy vegetables, tamarind and sweets.

Side effects, precautions

Side effects of Krimigna Vatika: 
This medicine should strictly be taken under medical supervision.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store in a cool dry place.
It can be taken during lactation period and in children.
It is best to avoid it during pregnancy or take only after doctor consultation.

  1. Can this medicine be used for prophylaxis in children of age group 5-12 years as they are prone to eat junk food made from ‘Maida’ … Like noodles- pasta- biscuits- pizza etc.. As these food can cause worm infestation..

  2. Hello Dr.
    My son is 9yrs and mabendezole 500mg is given 2 th and 11th September. Since continuously icting and worms at night again albendezole 400mg is given 15 th Oct and 5th Nov. Again by Nov 16th same symptoms are found but no stomachache. Therefore I hope to go for kottakal treatments. I’m looking for your opinion

  3. Both my children are having pin worms . They get itching in the night. They also complain of pain in the stomach after having breakfast.

    For severe infestation, it says krimighna vatika should be administered for 3-7 days. So the avipattikara churna be administered once after 3-7 days? Or morning this tablet be given and daily for 3-7 days at night avipattikar churna be given.

  5. I gave 1/4 tablet to my 3 years old child. She had 7 bowel movements the next day and was not very active. Do you suggest I continue or wait. What is the correct dosage?.
