  1. Can this be taken pre conception and during pregnancy? Can a woman take it regularly as a tonic? Can men have it

    • It can be taken during pre-conception for sure. During pregnancy, it can be taken, but not really necessary.
It can be taken as a regular tonic by women. Sure. But in low dose. May be 2 – 3 grams per day. But women with PCOS may avoid this as it contains sugar in higher quantity.
Men can have it. It has aphrodisiac, mind calming effect.

      • Thanks.
The formulation that I have is made at home by my friend’s mother and has a combination of Shatavari, Ashwagandha, Vidarikand, Gokharu, Yashtimadhu, Anantmoola, Arjun, Gulvel, Shankhpushpi, Brahmi, Dry ginger powder, Cinnamon, Elaychi powder. Safe pre and during pregnancy? In a dose of 1 or 2 tsp per day?

        • As a general rule, it is best to avoid any kind of medicines / home remedies during pregnancy. The Yashtimadhu (also known as licorice) is best avoided during pregnancy. It may lead to behavioral problems in children. The safety of many herbs in your combination is not yet proved beyond doubt in pregnancy. So, I do not recommend it.
Active lifestyle, gentle oil massage, healthy food and nutrition supplement that gynaecologist advises, is more than good for a healthy pregnancy.

          • Thanks a lot for your quick feedback!

          • Hello again doctor. Now I have a 5 m old baby. So far I was taking Shatavari Kalp of shree dhootpapeshwar for lactation. I have that formulation made at home..which I have mentioned in the comment above. One with many herbs. I wonder now if I can take it……

Also will you review the products Galact granules of Emcure and Lactonic granules? And Tab. Leptaden of Alarsin? Thanks in advance

  3. GD Kumar says:

    Dear Dr Hebbar,

I would just like to find out if this satavari kalpa and satavari ghulam have the same healing properties. I am undergoing medication for PCO and was given by the ayurvedic doctor the ghulam instead of the kalpa. I seriously believe that i need a more specific medication because of my abnormal condition. Hope you would be able to help. Thanks so much.

  4. I am taking shatavari kalpa for 2 weeks now, 2 tsp in the nite with milk .. My baby is 8 months old .. I am noticing decrease in milk production rather than increase after starting it .. Y ?? I have pcos and took treatment to conceive ..

  5. Is shatavari kalpa is recommended for kids(4 years) who is suffuring from seizures? If yes what is the dosage? Thank you.

    • Hi, for kids with seizure, it is better to consult the doctor, rather than relying on this medicine. This medicine might help, but not to a great extent.

  6. Is Shatavari (by itself) only recommended for women? Or can it be taken by men too? I’m wondering if there’s something like Ashwagandha to help stamina but without the Pitta aggravating effect…

    Thank you,

  7. What home remedy can i use for amenorrhea?

    • Hi, if it is just delay in periods or longer menstrual cycle, say of 40 days, having aloe vera juice – 25 ml per day may help. If it is too longer then you need to consult an Ayurveda doctor directly. Home remedies alone might not work.

  8. HI sir,

  12. Hello Dr Hebbar,

I’m in my first trimester of pregnancy and considering taking Shatavari powder to help with morning sickness/nausea. Could you clarify if this would help?

Also, the article states that Shatavari should only be taken for 2-4 months. Does that mean I can’t take it during the entire pregnancy and postpartum? I did take Shatavari pre-conception for a few months as well.

PS: Great Site! I’ve read several articles on your website and found them useful.
