Proprietary Ayurvedic medicines with Tribhuvan Kirti ras as ingredient:
Flue Five Syrup  – manufactured by Aushadhi Bhavan.

On one hand, it is used widely for fever. On the other hand, it is said to increase Pitta. I would think that any medicine which reduces fever must pacify Pitta?
Answer by Dr Hebbar:
Not necessarily. If you go through the Ayurvedic pathology of fever, there is decrease of Agni and Pitta at the level of gastro intestinal tract. Hence, Agni and Pitta increasing action is required in some types of fever.

Please consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

  1. Dear Doctor,

I am having Asthma since last two years…

I have started ayurvedic medicine 2 months back.

I was prescribed Tribhuvan kirti Ras tablets. ( two tablets BID). Along with that Shwas Kuthar Ras is also prescribe (One tablet OD).

I am also advised to take Liquorice and Trikatu Churna twice a day.

For how long should I take these? Doctor said I should take these for at least 1.5 to 2 years to get complete freedom from asthma.

    Kindly guide.

  10. Dr. Hebbar: the description of this medicine confuses me. On one hand you say it has antipyretic activity and is good for fever; to me that indicates it reduces Pitta–is that correct? On the other hand, there is a Dr. Kamath commenting that it is not advised in Pitta conditions, and stating that it reduces Vata and Kapha, not Pitta!
For example, would it be useful for someone who gets too much heat in the head and Pitta-related headaches?
