Raja Pravartini Vati Benefits, Dosage, Ingredients And Side Effects

Raja Pravartini Vati is a tablet, used in Ayurvedic treatment of primary and secondary amenorrhea and scanty bleeding. This medicine should only be taken under medical supervision.

Benefits

Raja Pravartini Vati tablet uses:
This tablet is primarily used for inducing menstruation.
It is used in Ayurvedic treatment of scanty bleeding and amenorrhea.

It is useful in premature menopause. Some women attain menopause before the age of 40 but still would like to continue menstruation with the desire of conception. In such women, Raja Pravardini vati is usually advised 1 tablet 2 times a day for a period of 4 – 6 weeks.
Some people use this medicine to prepone periods. But this might not work all the time.

It is also often used in the treatment of gall bladder stones, thrombosis and as a blood thinning medicine, even in males.
In children,
usually there will be variation in menstrual cycle in early stages. It is not ideal to give this medicine for regularizing periods. Only if menstruation is not happening for more than 4 months consistently, in a girl of above 15 years of age and if there are other signs of PCOS such as facial hair, then Rajapravartini vati can be administered along with other medicines for regular periods.

Effect on Tridosha – balances Vata and Pitta.

Dose

Rajah Pravarthini Vati dosage: 
(125 – 250 mg) 1 – 2 tablets once or twice a day, before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor. It is usually given starting from fourth week of menstrual cycle till onset of menstruation. The medicine should be stopped soon after onset of menstruation, or after 2 – 3 days after.
Some doctors prescribe this in a very high dose of 6 tablets per day.

How long to use?
It can be used for a period of  3- 6 months. In some people with chronic amenorrhea, it may be needed for up to one year.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.
Can it be taken during periods?
Yes, only if the menstrual flow is less.

Side Effects, Diet

Over dosage may cause severe menstrual bleeding.
Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in cool dry place.
Some people might feel mild headache soon after starting this medicine. This side effect ‘should’ go away in about 7-10 days. If not, consult your doctor.
People who are on blood thinning medicines need to consult your doctor for the advice and correct dose of this medicine.
It may cause stomach disturbance and abdominal pain.
If someone has not had periods for 6 months and now have started taking this tablet, then this tablet might not alone be sufficient. They may need other medicines or panchakarma. In such a case, it is better to consult a doctor than relying on this medicine.
If the medicine has expired, discard it. Do not use it.

Diet:
Please include 1 teaspoon of horse gram in diet, per day. 
In the morning, on empty stomach, let her take a teaspoon of sesame seed powder along with a teaspoon of jaggery. 
If available, papaya fruit is beneficial in inducing periods. She can have once per day. 
Aloe Vera – regular usage – Aloe vera juice, Aloe vera Amla juice

Rajah Pravartini Vati tablet ingredients, how to make:
10 g fine powder of each of
Kanya – Aloe vera
Kaseesa – Purified Blue Vitriole
Tankana – Borax
Ramatha – Asa foetida
The fine powder is triturated with aloe vera juice, paste is prepared and tablets are made, dried and preserved

Can I get pregnant while taking this medicine?
This medicine is used in the treatment of female infertility, to regularize menstrual cycles. So, there are good chances of pregnancy while taking this medicine. But once after pregnancy is confirmed, stop this medicine and consult your doctor.
Some confuse Raj pravartini bati as a contraceptive pill. This does not work as a contraceptive pill or as an abortion inducing pill. Do not use this medicine to induce abortion.

Expiry date

 Two years from the date of manufacture. Once after opening the container, it is better to empty it before an year.

After taking Raja pravartini vati during periods, bleeding is not stopping what to do?
This medicine is administered to induce periods or to increase menstrual blood quantity, as in case of oligomenorrhoea (less menstrual flow).
If the bleeding is not stopping after consuming this, the Raj Pravartani Bati should be immediately stopped and doctor should be immediately consulted.
Usually Ashokarishta in a dose of 20 ml, mixed with 20 ml of water, twice a day should be administered till the bleeding stops.

Can it be taken during periods?
Usually, it is advised for a few days before periods and stopped after the onset of periods. If the menstrual flow is low, only then it is continued even during periods.
In some cases of long term menstrual irregularity disorders, it is advised continuously for several months, including menstruation period.

During pregnancy

It is best to avoid this medicine during pregnancy. Stop this medicine once after pregnancy is confirmed. Know the reason – watch the below video.

Medicine Combination

It alone might not be sufficient in many cases of PCOS, delayed periods, scanty. It is often prescribed in combination with other medicines such as
Kulathadi kashayam, Kumaryasava (less flow, delayed periods),
Chandraprabha vati (female infertility),
Sukumaram Kashayam (less menstrual flow, with pain, PCOS, hormonal imbalance),
Kanchanara guggulu, Nithyananda rasa, Varanadi kashayam (for PCOS)
Stri Rasayan Vati etc.
Some patients take it along with M2 Tone tablet. But this might not be useful, as M2 Tone is used to stop heavy bleeding.
This medicine can be taken along with allopathic or homeopathic medicines.

For delayed periods, how many days of taking Rajapravartini vati will induce periods?
It really varies from company to company, to patient to patient. Approximately 7 – 10 days.

  1. I have UTI and also want to induce my periods as flow is very less. So someone advised to have raj: pravartini to induce periods and chandraprabha vati for uti. Can i take these two together in a day? 2 tablet each?

  2. If u have conceived n still taking this medicine. R there chances of miscarriage ? My Dr advised to take just before 8 days of period date .
