Asthma, pregnancy, obesity

During Asthma and obesity, it is best to avoid this medicine, especially in a dose higher than a teaspoon a day. Consult your doctor for its usage during pregnancy.

Use of Shatavari kashaya

Some versions of Ashtanga Hrudayam mentions Piarvyaha kashaya in place of Varaya Kashaya.
Pivari is a synonym of Shatavari – Asparagus racemosus.
So, some manufacturers use Shatavari kashaya in place of Triphala decoction.
If Shatavari is used, then the potency of the product will be slightly cooler compared to that of Triphala decoction. However, this would not change the overall benefits of the product by a great extent.

Please consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

  1. Dear Sir,

I have a Sanskrit-Hindi translated Ashtanga Hrudaya. In that, under the
Narasimha Rasayan section, it is written that, it has to be taken in 1 PAL
    quantity.

Sir, please let me know how much is 1 PAL in grams.

Also, i would like to know that these units of measurement like PAL,
TOLA etc are they all same or are they different in Ashtanga Hrudaya, Bhaishyajratnavali, Rasatarangini and other texts.

    • Hi Dr,
Thank you for the above link. However one of my friend suggested to take narashima rasayanam to gain weight.
So is it gonna help me?

  3. If it is in a lesser dose of half a teaspoon a day, it would not contribute to weight gain.
If you are above 5.4 feet, then 65 kg is not a big weight issue. Your Body Mass Index would fall within 25, indicating good height and weight ratio.
Exercise for at least half an hour a day, to counter the weight gain effect of Narasimha Rasayana.

    • The article explains about Narasimha rasayana causing steatohepatitis.
Narasimha Rasayana being made in butter form, is similar to any other fat, which can worsen steatohepatitis. Hence, care should be taken to administer this medicine in lower dose for a specific time period.
Any Ayurvedic medicine, in a very high dose or for a very long duration, taken without medical supervision can cause side effects. There is no denying it.

  29. So , a little update. Tried narasimha rasayana from Arya vaidya sala. The taste is frightening sweet.

I have a question though. Any idea why Arya vaidya sala mentions the recipe as taken from Ashtangahridayam if they include sita (sugar), since the ingredients dont mention the addition of sugar. ?

And for anyone reading this, any idea where to get the one without the sugar.
