Trayodashang Guggul is a very famous Ayurvedic medicine. It is in tablet form.  It is also known as   Trayodasanga Guggul tablets, Trayodasanga Gulgulu etc. This tablet has Guggulu (commiphora mukul) as its base. It is widely used in the Ayurvedic treatment of joint pain related disorders. Here, Guggulu is treated with 13 ingredients. So the name Trayodashang.

Uses

Trayodashang Guggul benefits
It is widely used in the Ayurvedic treatment of low back pain, sciatica, arm pain, locked jaw, knee joint pain, foot pain, arthritis pain and myalgia.
Post viral fever, when the patient complains of body, muscle and joint pains
Bursitis, Plantar fasciitis
Bursitis trochanterica
Shoulder dislocation pain
Ankylosing spondylitis

Indications

Doctors also prescribe this medicine for the treatment of –
Lordosis
Sciatica, Lumbar spondylosis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Osteo Arthritis
Effect on Tridosha – Calms Vata

It is useful to promote strength of bones and joints.
It acts as an excellent anti inflammatory and analgesic medicine.
It is used for the treatment of ankle pain, ankle twitch, slipped disc, sprain, back spasm, backache, back injury, stiffness of muscles, Coccyx pain

Partially useful in (other medications might be required)
Avascular necrosis
Sensory-neural hearing loss
Hypothyroidism
Ankylosing spondylitis
Pain related to SLE

Diet

Avoid deep fried foods, heavy-to-digest non veg foods, fast foods and aerated drinks, smoking and excess alcohol. These can irritate stomach and intestinal lining. These also may increase Tridosha.

Dosage

Trayodashang Guggul dose
1 – 2 tablets 2 – 3 times a day, before or after food or as directed by Ayurvedic doctor.
Usually it is administered along with gruel, warm water, alcohol, milk or meat soup, based on disease.

With western medicines
Seek your doctor’s advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicines. Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
If both Ayurvedic and Allopathic medicines are advised together, then it is best to take Allopathic medicine first, wait for 30 minutes and then, after a gap of 15 – 30 minutes, take Ayurvedic medicine or as directed by the physician.

Can this be used while taking Homeopathic medicine?
Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.

With supplements like multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 fatty acids etc?
Yes. Generally, this product goes well with most of the dietary supplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.

Side effects

Trayodashang Guggul Side Effects
There are no known side effects with this medicine. However it is best to use this product under medical supervision. Self medication with this medicine is discouraged.
Very high dose than prescribed may lead to stomach irritation.

Ashwagandha – Withania somnifera – 1 part
Hapusha – Juniperus communis Linn – 1 part
Guduchi – Tinospora cordifolia – 1 part
Shatavari – Asparagus racemosus – 1 part
Gokshura – Tribulus terrestris – 1 part
Vriddhadaru – Argyreia speciosa – 1 part
Rasna – Pluchea lanceolata – 1 part
Shatahva – Anethum sowa Kurz. – 1 part
Shati – Hedychium spicatum – 1 part
Yamani – Trachispermum amami – 1 part
Nagara – Ginger – Zingiber officinale – 1 part

Method of Preparation

Crushed purified guggulu is added with fine powders of ingredients from Abha to Ginger and pounded well till it forms semi solid consistency. Ghee is added at regular intervals to facilitate smooth pounding. It is then rolled into pills, dried and packed in tightly closed containers.

Trayodashang Guggulu DS tablet is the same medicine in double strength. Dose is usually 1 tablet 2 times a day after food.

    • you can use this. there are lot more medicines for your problem in Ayurveda along with external application and also Abhyanga or kati basti treatment. please consult an Ayurveda doctor so that you can get an appropriate treatment for your problem.

      Note: Avoid over the counter medication.

    Can trayodashang guggul be used in spinal stenosis eg lumbar spine stenosis. My mother has numbness in her legs.also can this guggul cause liver problems

  3. Sir, I have tailbone pain (coccyx) and sometimes it shifts in back side of pelvis area(waist). Stretch in back and one side leg. Please suggest the best medicine or group of medicines of ayurveda.

  4. I had a back surgery done for L4S1 area 6 years back and due to scar left there, my right foot is numb with pain in the spur there and pain in knee on inner side. It becomes more uncomfortable when driving and using right foot for gas paddle. What ayurveda medicines can you kindly recommend? I also now have cervical degeneration in C5/C6/ C7 with some nerve pinching for left arm. Please advise. I am also taking allopath pills for hypertension, Lyrica for nerve and Nexium for Gerd. Many Thanks.

Sir My elder brother was prescribed saribadyasava and khadirarishta for skin itching, rashes ,dandruff, digestive issues 2 spoons aften meals 2 times . but he also has neck shoulder back pain problems not severe, joint pains, nerve related numbness in hands and right leg ,..so a vaidya had given palsinuron capsule…but another vaidya near my house suggested that it has heavy metals ,if you could avoid heavy medicines do it, he said take chandraprabhavati and trayodashang instead…so can these 2 vati be taken along with saribadya and khadira tonics…thank you

        we will first complete treatment of old vaidya for this month …..we just consulted 1st vaidya and he said just take ashwagandga and shallaki himalaya tablets along with these 2 blood purifiers with half hour gap between…and then next month continue with chandraprabha and trayodashang.

  6. Doctor has prescribed me Tryodashang Gugul for my very old trigger finger (left hand index finger stiffness due to too much typing) disease. I have been taking this medicine since 7 days, but i do not find much benefit. Should I continue? Anticipating a suitable advice.

  7. I have knee pain and the reason is incomplete radial tear of the free edge of the body of the lateral meniscus. There is a concomitant horizontal tear of the body of the lateral meniscus with extensive peripheral parameniscal cyst formation.

    Doctors told surgery is the only option.

    Any other options in Ayurveda? Kindly advice me.
